A daily history quiz that explains the present

Five questions a day, with history questions on the events, turning points and people behind how things came to be. Every answer comes with a plain explanation and a takeaway worth keeping.

What the history questions cover

The History category favours events that explain something about today over dates you would only ever need for a trivia night.

  • Turning points

The decisions and accidents — wars, treaties, inventions — that quietly set the direction everything after them took.

  • Why borders and names look the way they do

The history behind the map: countries, capitals and currencies whose origins are stranger than they appear.

  • Inventions and firsts

Who got there first, who got the credit, and how long the gap between the two usually is.

  • Everyday life then and now

How ordinary things — money, mail, medicine, meals — actually worked before they worked the way they do today.

Why a daily history quiz beats a documentary binge

A long documentary is easy to watch and easy to lose. One history question a day, with its explanation, is small enough to stick — and repeated retrieval is what turns facts into knowledge you can call on later.

Each question closes with a takeaway, so even a wrong answer leaves you with something usable. Your streak, accuracy and strongest categories build up as you play — as a guest on one device, or across all of them with a free account.

History is one of seven subjects in the daily round — see the full general knowledge quiz for what else a day covers.

History quiz questions

Is this history quiz free?
Yes. The daily round is free to play, with no ads interrupting a question and no account required.
Will all five questions be about history?
No — the daily round mixes 5 questions across Money, Technology, Health, Travel, History, Science and Everyday Life. If you want a pure history quiz, the History category is usually represented once or twice each day, and every question still comes with a full explanation.
Is this history trivia or history with context?
Both, deliberately. The questions are answerable as trivia, but each explanation connects the fact to something that still matters — the history equivalent of remembering why, not just what.
Do I get the answers explained?
Yes. After each question you see whether you were right, what the correct answer is, why it is true, and one takeaway to remember.
How much history do I need to know already?
None. The daily five include questions across difficulty levels, and the explanation teaches what the question tested — so a wrong answer is the start of learning, not the end of it.
